If you are looking for an album that will cater to your artistic whims and caprices then, you should listen to this album. The problem with art record is that it tends to be boring and you forced yourself to listen to it even though you cannot comprehend the art thing of the album.  For example, most Bjork album is considered as artistic album but after listening to her records, you are not impressed with the record as you felt that the singer is the only one who understands her art.

Listen to “Bleeding Heart” in here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAy4RMI82NQ.

In this record, Regina Spektor, probably did not have an idea that she is Bjork in pop and jazz domain.  Thus, her records are not boring and listeners are excited to discover her songs.  This is because the art album she offered is not monotonous in sounds but rather a compilation of melodies and hooks that are usually absent in art albums.  Also in this record, there is no forcing of the art.  In fact, Regina might not be aware that she is creating an art album.

Listen to “The One Who Stayed and The One Who Left” in here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3n81BNbVLdo.

Although, this is an art album, it doesn’t mean that the whole album is excellent.  It is good for a Regina Spektor album but only time will tell if this record holds up and will become one of the revered classic albums in the future.  Perhaps, it is the fact that most of the songs here are piano and vocal combo, makes one wish that she could have made a more upbeat album. Best track to listen in here are “Bleeding Heart,” “Grand Hotel,” “The Light,” “The Trapper and the Furrier,” “The One Who Stayed and The One Who Left,” and “End of Thought.”

I rate this album 4.5 stars out of 5 stars.

The problem with revisiting old records is that one is compelled to write off the album immediately as nonsense.  For example, in this album, one might feel that synth pop albums are boring and quite dull considering that the drum program is quite dated if you are listening to it right now.  However, if you open up your mind and explore and listen to the whole album, you might find yourself really delighted as the sound and vibe might be dated still most of the hooks have better hooks and melodies compared to modern pop stuffs you are listening right now.

Best tracks to listen in this album are “You Think You Know Her,” “What Do You See,” “The Echoing Green,” and “New World.”   I rate this record 4 stars for despite being dated in terms of sound and vibe still this album managed to encourage me to listen again and again from time to time.

It is not surprising and perhaps won’t be the last time that a musical artist will attempt to produce an album that is fashion like a musical play.  Pink Floyd did it with “Another Brick On The Wall.”  With artist whose temper is like an autistic child, surely Robbie Williams will focus his energy on something that will gain him musical respect not only among his peers and musical fans but also with music critics.  In other words, this album is probably is ticket to musical integrity the way Madonna did with “Like A Prayer” album.

Watch official video of “Love My Life” on this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4ggyO-OFXU.

In the song “Love My Life,” he sung about him being powerful, beautiful, wonderful, magical, and born free.  Yes, he might be talking about the whole album.  The album is beautiful in a sense that it is loaded with great hooks and melodies.  Yes, some songs may sound like Take That fossil but songs like “Motherfucker” and “Sensitive” are great reminders on his 90’s roots. But there are songs like “David’s Song” which is basically Robbie at his best doing ballads.

Watch “Motherfucker” on this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qo4m2nzfhjg.

The album is wonderful in a sense that he did not succumb to musical clichés.  For example, with a song titled “Bruce Lee,” listeners will assume that it will have oriental flavors.  Instead, the song is fashioned like a Dennis de Young in vocals while he was still with Styx.

Listen to “Bruce Lee” in here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cr6kugrwde4.

The album is powerful as it shows his powerful talents doing powerful songs like “Pretty Woman,” “The Heavy Entertainment Song,” “Party Like Russian,” and “Time On Earth.”

It is also a humane album as there are songs which affect you emotionally like the way he did with earlier songs like “Angel.”  In this album, you have “When You Want To Know” and “Marry Me.”

As a whole the album deserve many repeat listening and thus I rate this record 3.5 stars.

ONE ALBUM YOU CAN ALWAYS LISTEN AT NIGHT!!!

ALBUM                                 :           FIRST COMES THE NIGHT

Elvis Presley resurrected?  Nope, it’s Chris Isaak.  You can say that he is still Elvis copycat but after listening to his record, you can say otherwise and this time he is finally he is in own world and musical style.  In fact, he took quite a lot of risk by releasing an album that combined musical style of Willie Nelson, Roy Orbison, and Gene Autry.  This is indeed cowboy pop.

Watchh “Pleases Don’t Call”‘in here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUbx6KGPlLM.

One of the nicest things that you can say about this musical performer is that he knows his limitations and his strengths.  Thus, you won’t hear him singing songs which do not augur well with his voice.  Thus, you feel relaxed listening to all of the songs in this album.  Even the Elvis Presley factor is no longer exploited although he did sound like the King of Rock and Roll in “Love The Way You Kiss Me.”

Listen to “Reverie” iin heere https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSBggDCQGnM.

Best tracks to listen to in this album are “First Come The Night,” “Baby What You Want,” “Down In Flames,” “Insects,” “Kiss Me Like A Stranger,” “Reverie,” and “Some Days Are Harder Than The Rest.” Indeed, that’s a lot of recommended songs to listen to.  With that I rate this record 3.5 stars out of 5 stars.

MY FAVORITE GEORGE MICHAEL SONG

Farewell and rest in peace to you. You are indeed one great talent and voice the world has known.

Denal's Mind

It seems that 2016 is a bad year for music.  This year saw a lot of musical legends died and created emptiness as their talents and musical output were difficult to replace or fill in.  Few more days and it’s 2017, yet another musical icon is gone.  George Michael left this world at the age of 53 years and apparently it would be his Last Christmas on Earth.  Who would have thought that his holiday song will be a prophetic one for him. It is one of the most played contemporary holiday tracks ever proving that George Michael, despite some missteps, is indeed a musical legend.  Here are my 10 favorite songs from him:

  • Careless Whisper – when this song was released, it was billed as Wham featuring George Michael.  The song made sax sexy again at that time it was released.  It drowned out the sax music of that…

NOT BAD ALBUM THUS STILL WISHFULLY THINKING FOR A GREAT ALBUM

****************************************************************

There are many words that you can describe with this album; quiet, somber, charming, melancholic, serene, endearing, and melodious. This album is like a compilation of songs contributed by famous middle of the road artists like James Taylor, Christopher Cross, Paul Carrack, Stephen Bishop, David Pomeranz, and other similar artists. Initially, you might be compelled to turn off your player but after listening to a song or two, you would find yourself listening to the whole album unconsciously.

Watch and listen to fan-made video of “Always” in this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJWCRL17s6o.

Yes, they did not plead “stop and wait a minute” in “Always” as you would find the whole album musically endearing.  While it is a quiet album where only basic instruments are played as musical background, the songs came out rather strong.  This is because most of the songs of the album have different melodies thus, you will not find yourself listening to the same tune over and over again in this album.

Best tracks to listen to in this record are “Everyday The Same,” “Good Again,” “Real Tears,” “Thank You,” and “Wishing Time.” This may not be the best China Crisis album but definitely, this is worth your time.  I rate this record 3.5 stars out of 5 stars.

ONE OF COREY HART’S BEST ALBUMS IN HIS ENTIRE CAREER

ALBUM                                   :           JADE

ARTIST                                   :           COREY HART

GENRE                                   :           POP

Date Released                      :        1998

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

The moment you hear the first few bars of “Let It Fly” you would think that you are not listening to Corey Hart as the song is like a song from 90’s one hit wonder like Joey McIntyre, Tommy Page, and Joey Lawrence.  While the song is quite promising, it is perhaps the house music versus grunge element in the song that makes it all confusing.  It doesn’t help that in some parts of the song, he sounded like fellow Canadian rocker Bryan Adams.

Watch official video of “Break The Chain” in here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlzdVpoMxlE.

The production values of this album is so nineties thus, you felt like you are listening to a Take That or Backstreet Boys records.  For example, ‘Without You” sounds like Backstreet Boys’ “I Want It That Way” and “Break The Chain” sounds like Take That’s “Pray.” The 90’s element is so prevalent that one might not notice easily that “Above The Trees” has the same musical structure (more or less) with his old hit “Never Surrender.”

Watch official video of “Las Bas” in this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLuz6-88_aY.

Perhaps, it is this 90’s vibe that makes the album cohesive and very easy to listen to.  One will not suspect that Corey Hart is an 80’s act.  It could be that this album has several endearing songs that melt the heart such as “La Bas.” Perhaps, it is the fact that he can perform different musical genre such as “So Visible” which sounds like a Eurovision entry that listeners will not suspect that he sang “Boy In The Box” few decades ago.

Listen to audio recordign of “Above The Trees” in here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgGAnszZipo.

I can say that this is the best album since the 80’s that Corey Hart has produced.  I rate this album 3.5 stars out of 5 stars. I would have rated this four stars if not for “Believing” which is for me a rip off of his own “In Your Soul.”
