The moment you hear the first few bars of “Let It Fly” you would think that you are not listening to Corey Hart as the song is like a song from 90’s one hit wonder like Joey McIntyre, Tommy Page, and Joey Lawrence.  While the song is quite promising, it is perhaps the house music versus grunge element in the song that makes it all confusing.  It doesn’t help that in some parts of the song, he sounded like fellow Canadian rocker Bryan Adams.

The production values of this album is so nineties thus, you felt like you are listening to a Take That or Backstreet Boys records.  For example, ‘Without You” sounds like Backstreet Boys’ “I Want It That Way” and “Break The Chain” sounds like Take That’s “Pray.” The 90’s element is so prevalent that one might not notice easily that “Above The Trees” has the same musical structure (more or less) with his old hit “Never Surrender.”

Perhaps, it is this 90’s vibe that makes the album cohesive and very easy to listen to.  One will not suspect that Corey Hart is an 80’s act.  It could be that this album has several endearing songs that melt the heart such as “La Bas.” Perhaps, it is the fact that he can perform different musical genre such as “So Visible” which sounds like a Eurovision entry that listeners will not suspect that he sang “Boy In The Box” few decades ago.

I can say that this is the best album since the 80’s that Corey Hart has produced.  I rate this album 3.5 stars out of 5 stars. I would have rated this four stars if not for “Believing” which is for me a rip off of his own “In Your Soul.”
