The moment you hear first few notes of “Shine,” you will have mixed feelings with this album.  Mixed in a sense that the song is so 80’s and it feels like you are listening to faster beat of “New Life” by Depeche Mode. However, there is still that feeling of gladness that this New Wave band did not deviate from the kind of music that fans are familiar with.  Moreover, there is also that feeling of being contemporary in this latest output of the band, as the hooks and melodies sounds like modern rock group such as Imagine Dragons for example.

Songs that will make you travel in time on album projects like METHOD OF SILENCE (1989) and MEANWHLE (1991,) are; “Laughing”, “Count On Me,” and “Still” There are songs that speaks of good old Camouflge such as “Misery,” “Leave Your Room Behind (uncannily a good track to mash up with Laura Branigan’s “Self Control)” though some part of the song probably borrows some notes from “Zombie” by The Cranberries.

There is a little bit of Madonna in this album in the song “In The Cloud” where it has similar phone intro with her “Hung Up.” Meanwhile, “Greyscale,” “Light Grey,”and “Dark Grey” could be presumed as tracks from the band’s opera project.  The album could have done better without these filler tracks. You can escape “If,” “I’ll Find,” and “End of Words.”

For loyal fans, this is a must have for them and be grateful that this legendary German synth band is still active.  For normal fans, it is not a risk listening to this record.  Perhaps, this will introduce you to their earlier and better works.  With that, I rate this record 3.5 stars.
