Praise songs. Christian songs, or gospel songs tend to have middle of the road song structure. Thus, songs in these genre really sound alike and even the lyrics tend to follow the same rhythm and rhyme structure.  Amy Grant is familiar with this reality and being one of the most successful Christian and Gospel singer, she knows that in order to stay in the music business she also need to offer something new even if the songs are as trite and probably boring (to some.)

In this latest compilation album of popular Christian songs, she gave some of the tracks in here a different sound.  She crafted most of the gospel songs in this album to make it sound like a country music.  Indeed, she is successful with this strategy and hopefully will encourage mainstream audiences to take a look at her music like the way they embraced her when she crossed over to pop with “Baby Baby.”

The country music strategy worked as it made the whole album cohesive musically.  It helped create the idea that Christian songs can be relevant and normal songs too like the ones pop listeners heard on the radio. Another best aspect of this album is that Amy Grant managed to choose the songs carefully and one can say that all the songs in this album are truly inspiration.

With said, I rate this record 4 stars as this album is more than just a gospel album.
