The latest album from this alternative rock band started with a celebratory song titled “The Broken.”  It is a call to all the downtrodden to stand up and take charge with your own life as only you can make it better as other people are not interested with your misery.  Thus, from the first track, you can already tell the context of this album. Gone are the angst and loneliness that some fans are quite familiar with this band.

The album continued being upbeat with songs dealing with sexual pleasure in “In The Dark.” There is a song here that is quite similar musically with Kenny Loggins “I’ m Free/Heaven Help Me” which is a good track from Footlose soundtrack.   In fact, even while the band is reflective, they are still upbeat; just listen to the rock and roll sound in “Believe” and at the same time relate to lyrics on believing yourself.  The same vibe you will feel listening to “Living In Your Hell” track this time around, you feel someone blasting somebody to a tune similar to “Stop The Rock” by Apollo 440.

In “Inside of Me,” you have a song that sounds like “Iris” by Goo Goo Dolls and lyrically it has the same context about finding who you really are. The best track in this album belongs to “I Don’t Wanna Know” because it has 3 different musical structures or hooks and that is quite rare in these times where songwriters just jumble notes all throughout the song.  The weakest track is “Pieces of Me” which is quite too country in terms of vibe and felt like out of place in this album.

Another good track that will definitely delight their romantic fans is “Love Is A Lie.”  It is about loving someone who wanted more and you do not know what is that more. The title track “Us and The Night,” is one song that will not blow your mind but the chorus will make you hum or sing along “come on, come on; Let’s enjoy the ride.”

The album ends with a very 90’s track “Feel From The Moon” but it doesn’t’ mean that this is really a throwback album. This album is just being 3 Doors Down even though that some of the tracks in here are quite homage to songs of other alternative rock bands.  With that, I rate this record 3.5 stars.

1 stars = Ignore it

2 stars = risk it

3 stars = borrow or buy it

4 stars = buy it and keep it

5 stars = buy, keep, and treasure it
