ALBUM TITLE : IN SEARCH OF BETTER DAYS
ARTIST : INCOGNITO
GENRE : JAZZ VOCAL
DATE RELEASED : 2016
If you are familiar with this jazz band, you know very well the kind of music they served over the years. You might think that they have become boring as they continue to produce tracks in this genre. But, you have to remember that this is not a boy band or a pop group. Thus, it is expected that the music they produced is quite similar. In this album, the boring aspect might hang over your head. But for jazz lovers, this album can never be boring.

Perhaps, it is because of song like “Better Days” which fortunately is not a cover version of Dianne Reeves song but rather a bounce jazz tune that could be mistaken as a Janet Jackson track. Or perhaps, it is the track “Bridges of Fire” that ignites your musical sensibilities as this jazz intstrumental sounds like a Santana and David Sanborn track rolled into one. Or probably, you can say that it is “All I Ever Wanted” that will urge listeners to finish the whole album because of the lush vocals.

If you are a loyal Incognito fans, you will find “Crystal Walls” quite seductive and psychedelic at the same which is quite a surprise actually. In “Echoes of Utupia,” you have a variety of jazz sounds that you might be familiar with. Not only that you can feel a Santana vibe but also a George Benson and Earl Klugh character. And what is even amazing in this track is that the instruments seems like singing actually instead of just being a musical background. If for this track alone, this album is really worth your time.

In “I See The Light,” you thought that Incognito is experimenting with EDM music because the intro is like a rave sound until the piano background set in and you the mood shift to John Legend like song. Of course, you have the usual brand of Incognito songs ala “Don’t You Worry About A Thing” with tracks like ‘Just Say Nothing” for example. There is a LOVE trilogy in this album as there are three tracks here that has song titles that start with that word; “Love Be The Messenger,” “Love Born In Flames, ” and “Love’s Revival.” These three songs seems like B-sides of their early recordings.
