If you are an avid music fan, you knew that sequels are not rare occurences.  In fact there are so many albums that were sequels of older album; just ask man R and B and rap artists.  However, album sequels are not usually discussed as many of them failed to match the original one.  In this case, there is a bit of curiousity as to how ABC will match The Lexicon of Love of 1982.  That album was a tough act to follow considering all the accolades it earned such as landing in many Top Albums of All Time, Best 80’s Album, and so and so forth.  It is also important to note that this is the most commercially and critically album of ABC.

So, how did this album fare with the first part?  Thankfully, this album is a worthy successor even though that it did not quite match the standards set by first part album.  It does have some moments like having Anne Dudley again on this album and it is an event when you are able to gather the same team.  It does have some songs that will destined to be a classic like “Viva Love.”  A dance tune that will make you feel like it’s the 80’s again. “Confessions of A Fool” will make you believe that the new wave generation has the best music of all times.

“The Singer Not The Song” is an attempt to rewrite the success of the first album.  But, this song like the other songs did not match the whole vibe of the first The Lexicon of Love album.  Instead, it just merely continue what that album has and one can conclude that the songs in these tracks were probably filler tracks but ended up stored in a vault waiting for the right time to release it.

This is indeed a worthy effort of Martin Fry to revisit the first album by offering a continuation not a reinvention.  Thus, the album is successful based on this presumption.  With that, this record deserves a 3.5 stars rating.
