In the first track “Strawberry Fields,” there is a certain longing that she wants to pursue; that is a clear mind and peaceful surrounding.  You can say that this is a retrospective album where she will lead you to her dreams, inspirations, and aspirations.  The whole album is all about revealing herself.  Thus, you have her singing about something special given to her and she appreciated it by singing “Gave Me Something” where she was grateful that she was given hope and no longer put her life on hold.

And in return, she gave an assurance that she won’t be gone and just said that “Hold My Hand;” a bouncy tune that is more like a celebration instead of assuring.  And the dance beat continues with “Real Love” where she was finally happy that she found that one rare real love. And the real love was tested when she sang in “Ain’t Got Far” where the love has tried to pull her down but the lady is tenacious eventually she went out to prove how wrong the other one is.

Being in love is like a rollercoaster indeed, that despite what happened with that real love, there is always that chance that the one thing you love will make you say “Take Me Home.” Love is also a two way street and in order to make it work, you “Don’t Be So Hard” on yourself.  This is why with a title so gloomy she crafted the song as a dance tune with a diva performance.

These is just one story that you decipher with all of the songs in this album.  There are many ways you can connect the songs altogether and discover why this album is “ I CRY WHEN I LAUGH.”  This is an engaging pop record where listeners can really relate to what she is singing.  Musically, the album does not disappoint; if you want dance music, there are at least four where you can shake your hips.  If you like to cry, there are at least two heartwrenching ballads in here. An album full of reminiscing the heartache but still hopeful. With that I rate this record 3.5 stars out of 5 stars.
