Here is a collection of memorable classic love songs from one of the most romantic voices during the late nineties.  Sure, a lot of listeners would say “duh” if they do not know who Marti Pellow is.  He is the lead vocalist of one of the most famous boy band during the eighties and nineties WET WET WET.  The band is famous for many hit ballads like “Love Is All Around,” Julia Says,” “Goodbye Girl,” and “Sweet Surrender,” to name few.  In this album, Marti Pellow showed the same vocal quality years after his band hit big time and members went on to do individual projects.  Here is a voice that is suited to sing romantic ballads as Marti packs it with the right emotion.

One of the plus factors of this record is that Pellow delivered the songs not only poignantly but also imbibed it with his own style making the song more like an original version instead of cover versions.  He sung America’s “I Need You” minus the melancholy mood the original band did instead Marti treated the song with certain gladness of needing someone.  His version of Bee Gees “How Can You Mend A Broken Heart,” stayed away with the falsetto rendition instead gave the song a certain kind of longing.  His take on Bobby Goldsboro “Witchita Lineman” is simply fantastic and just right; no imitation of low key vocal performance.  He also covered two Barbra Streisand songs here; “Evergreen” and “Songbird.”  And he proved that these songs can still be relevant musically today.

You will indeed fall in love with this record despite the fact that some of the songs in here might not be familiar to current crop of listeners.  As a cover album, Marti Pellow did more than justice to the songs he covered, he gave it life.  I rate this record 4.5 stars out of 5 stars.
