ALBUM TITLE                        :        CONFIDENT

ARTIST                                   :        DEMI LOVATO

GENRE                                    :        POP

DATE RELEASED                   :        2015

She sounded very strong in the first track “Confident,” if this is an indication that she is confident that she has a good output this time, only by listening to the whole record we can tell.  Demi Lovato is fortunate that she has excellent pipes though not as huge as that of Mariah and Whitney but still enough for her to carry showstopper songs like the lead single.

The second track “Cool for The Summer” somehow managed to erase what she gained in the first track; that is eliciting excellent record and vocal performance.  This track is very commercial and is an in your face attempt to secure radio impressions.  By the time you reach the third track “Old Ways,” you have this feeling that the whole ambience starts to regress into a generic album; she even sounded boring in this track.  Fortunately, she recovered in track number four with “For You.” Had this been a dance record, you would have a disco song complete with diva performance ala Donna Summer.

“Stone Cold” is an interesting ballad as it is quite rock in terms of treatment.  Thus, you do not have in here your usual powerful female r and b ballad but a rock ballad in the tradition of “Total Eclipse of The Heart” by Bonnie Tyler. However, some ballads in here like “Waiting For You” and “Wildfire” just sound the same with other pop ballads from similar artists like Rihanna, Katy Perry, and even Selena Gomez.

After listening to “Lionheart” you will feel that what this record is aiming is to promote more on her vocal prowess rather than on message and context.  You wish that (after the song ended) that she stopped wailing, yelling, and screaming in the succeeding tracks.  Unfortunately, the remaining tracks in this album at this point, do not only sound the same but lacks sincerity of emotions.

As a whole, it is still a good album worthy of your time especially if you are a Demi Lovato fan.  I rate this record 3 stars out of 5 stars.

Ratings Description:
