Ludacris must thank all the singers who are featured in several tracks in this record. These tracks were apparently the saving grace in what seem to be a very predictable rap album. All the songs that featured him solo have nothing unique to present to listeners; it’s the same “nigga” theme and the same musical background.  Even his rapping no longer works, it feels like emotion less.

However, once you start listening to tracks featuring other singers or rappers, the ambience of the record transform the album into more listenable and tolerable. In fact, it is more than tolerable. His duet with Usher in “Not Long” is one of the most melodious tracks he created so far.  The most passionate track is “Ocean Skies” featuring Monica in what seemed to be a tribute track to Ludacris’ father.

In his rap duet with Miguel in “Good Lovin,” how you wished that he created the same vibe with all the tracks that he rapped solo.  The idea that he needs other performers  to pump up his creativity was further cemented in the track “Problem” feature Cee Lo.  What seemed to be a boring and trite topic becomes interesting because of Cee Lo’s yell.  One thing that this album revealed is that Ludacris can be sexy too as proven in the track featuring John Legend; “My Life.” The horn background is quite a novelty for Ludacris and the song deserve second listening or even few repeats. His duet with Jason Aldean resulted in what could be the best track in this record.  This is where he became passionate and too emotional and sincere in terms of rap delivery.

Had it not been for the featured singers and performers this record would earn a very low rating.  Thus, I rate this record 2.5 out of 5 stars.

Ratings Description:

1 star = Ignore it

2 stars= risk it

3 stars = borrow or buy it

4 stars = buy it and keep it

5 = buy, keep, and treasure it
