It has been two decade since the last time we hear new music from this legendary R and B group.  While we welcome their latest album with open minds, it seems that the group did not welcome the idea of evolving their music into something more fluid and buoyant. Their latest tracks are still loaded with heavy beats, drums, and synthesizers but lacks some good hooks and melodies for listeners to get lost in the vibe.  Jodeci remain stuck up in the era where they became famous.  Current R and B tunes infused with more interesting beats and drum patterns which are more exciting and a pleasure to listen.

Listening to the whole album is a trip down to memory lane where rap and R and B were lording over the charts and pop was the alternative rock at that time.  Not only their music was a throwback to the time when they were quite more popular but the lyrics in most of the tracks in this album feels like Jodeci members did not grow.  They are still singing songs that have juvenile themes and lyrics.

They were singing about a hot lady in “Too Hot.”  “Sho Out” is an invitation for sex. “Checking on You” is a shallow song about showing affection; do you need to buy a house to let her know how you want her?  “Those Things” is another take on sex with repetitive lyrics.  The group redeemed themselves with the track “Every Moment.” While it has very simple lyrics, it is the most passionate song in this album. “Nobody Wins” seems a good track except for that irritating “no no no no no” in the background.  “Incredible” song is a radio friendly song; honest lyrics and with good hooks and transitions in between verses. “Jennifer” is song that reminds listeners that Jodeci can compete with “Boyz II Men” when it comes to vocal harmony. “Body Parts” is the most boring song as the context in this track were already sang in earlier tracks on this record; thus, it is very tiring to listen a song about meeting girls and hooking up for sex.  “Stress Reliever” is a filler song in this record.

The album might be a welcome addition to loyal Jodeci fans but for serious music lovers, listening to this record seems like waste of time. Yes, most of the ideas rapped and sang in  this record have been heard before and were better in terms of lyrics and melodies. With that, I rate this record 2.0 stars out of 5 stars.
