After listening to the first two tracks in this record, “The Price”and Third Law”, you already figured what is right and what is wrong in this record.

First the good one, the band has good ear for musicality. Leprous is able to create track with various melodies and hook in one track thus their songs are not boring instead you wish the some different hooks were longer and were used as the main melody in the track. Second, the guitar riffs are very good as it is like listening to great rock songs of the seventies wherein you only hear instruments to technology embedded like some of rock bands right now whose songs are hard to figure if it is rock or EDM.

Second, the whole album can be considered as mood music rock style. It does not invite listeners to become a fan of this band. The music that you hear here simply encourages you to express the same moods the song implies. Ironically, you cannot get mad with any of the songs in here. Songs like “The Price, The Flood, and Triumphant” will make you feel victorious and expectant after listening to these songs.  “Third Law, Within My Fence, and Down” will make you protective and defensive of the forces threatening your physical body and soul. “Red, Down, and Slave” will make you reflective.

Now, the bad thing on this record is the vocals. It is quite forced and very common. The band could have opted for someone among them who has more unique vocal timbre. Thus, the whole musicality of their track diminishes because the voice that you singing is like of someone who still plays in college rock bands doing school programs.  The voice is quite similar to Dennis DeYoung of The Styx.

This album deserves a 3 star rating despite the generic sound of the vocal.

Ratings Description:

1 star = Ignore it

2 stars= risk it

3 stars = borrow or buy it

4 stars = buy it and keep it

5 = buy, keep, and treasure it
