ARTIST                                  :           BELINDA CARLISLE

GENRE                                  :           POP

DATE RELEASED               :           1986 AND REMASTERED EDITION 2014

Nearly 30 years after, it is time to revisit one of the lead singers of the famous US girl band The Go Gos.  The band disbanded in 1985 and the year after that Belinda released her solo  album entitled BELINDA and contained remarkable songs particularly the hit song “Mad About You.”  The song peaked at number three in Billboard Hot 100 chart and went on to become one of her enduring legacies as a solo performer.

What can I say after listening this album over and over again? Meghan Trainor is that you? This was the first thing that came into my mind after listening to the whole album again. It has the same vibe with Meghan Trainor’s TITLE album. You have Motown like songs like “Since You’ve Gone.” You have bubble gum pop with “Shot in the Dark.” You have girl in love song with “I Got To You.”  Indeed, both albums are very similar in terms of theme and treatment.

The remastered edition of this album made the similarity very obvious. The remastering has enabled the album not to sound very dated and in fact, some of the songs in here can be covered by current crop of artist in the same structure and still sound as if the songs are not cover versions.

With these observations, this album deserves a 4 star rating because of the excellent remastering.

Ratings Description:

1 star = Ignore it

2 stars= risk it

3 stars = borrow or buy it

4 stars = buy it and keep it

5 = buy, keep, and treasure it
