THE BUTLER HAS A POLICY AND IT IS GOOD!!!

ALBUM REVIEW       :      POLICY

ARTIST                      :      WILL BUTLER

GENRE                       :      ROCK

DATE OF RELEASED :      2015

You know that an album has a problem when the opening song bears uncanny similarity to an old ditty.  In this case, it is not amusing that the opening intro of “Take My Side” sounds like “Rock Lobster” of B’52’s.  What happens is that you expect that succeeding songs will have the same qualities?  Yes, some songs intentionally sounds like some other songs and others in terms of “rampa pa pa pa,” is quite similar to older hits .

The song “Anna” might have borrowed its “rampa pa pa pa” from “I Wanna Be Sedated” by The Ramones and even the piano interlude in between bears uncanny similarity with The Go Gos piano intro in “Head Over Heals.” Fortunately, “Finish What I Started” did not sound like any other song instead, becomes one of the most engaging ballad at the moment.  “Something’s Coming” has one of the freshest guitar riffs I ever heard in years; something original.

It is quite amusing to note that Will Butler sounds like a name for a country or blues singer.  Thus, it is quite a surprise that the album is pure rock and even sounds juvenile in terms of vocal quality.  It is like listening to a debut album looking its place in indie label charts.  Or, another indie band trying to be the next REM or Radiohead.

This record from former member of Arcade Fire is worth the time listening over and over again. I rate this record 3.5 stars out of 5 stars.

Ratings Description:
