Surprisingly Tolerable If Not Good Album From Aha

ALBUM REVIEW    :           LIFELINE

ARTIST                      :           A-HA

GENRE                      :           POP / ROCK

DATE RELEASED   :           2005

Non – fans of A-Ha were wondering probably during the turn of 20th century if this famous Norwegian band was still around after over a decade of being familiar and listening to some of their 80’s hits like “Take on Me.”  Yes, they survived the eighties and nineties but only in Europe and not with the rest of the world.  Thus, there are millions of people who dig their stuffs during the eighties that they kept on churning records two decades after.  In fact this record is their seventh studio album over the course of their career.

In this album, the band still relied on synths like their previous album.  However, it is not as heavy like on the first three albums.  You here some real instruments in here and probably this is intentional as the album is more introspective in nature.  The songs in this album were not dwelling on the fun side aspect of life.  Instead, what you have in here are charming songs about starting over and taking a leap of faith in “White Canvass;” of reassurance in “Dragonfly;” of forgiving one’s self in “Solace” for examples.

Generally, the album is full of power ballads with screaming falsetto voice the group is knownfor like “Summer Moved On.”  What? Yes, this track from Minor Earth Major Sky album together with the title track of that album was added in this record as a bonus track in some countries.  There are also songs of encouragement such as “Lifelines.”  You would find friendship song in “Wanted More.”  “Forever Your” is a bittersweet goodbye song.  “Did Anyone Approach You” is not your typical A-Ha song the moment you hear the first stanza of the song.  It mashed up rap and A-Ha style of songs.

So, if you want more somber A-Ha songs, this one is a great listening adventure for you non A-Ha fans.  I rate this record 3 stars out of 5 stars.

Ratings Description:

1 star = Ignore it

2 stars= risk it

3 stars = borrow or buy it

4 stars = buy it and keep it

5 = buy, keep, and treasure it
