Album Review               :       NO SOUND WITHOUT SILENCE

Artist                  :       THE SCRIPT

Genre                 :       ROCK

Date of Released     :               2014

One of the best phrase I heard in a long time is “I can’t take the hate from heartbreak,” and it is found in the song “No Good In Goodbye.” This statement may explain why the album is title as NO SOUND WITHOUT SILENCE.” It speaks of the irony in life one thing cannot be present without the other preceding or following after it.  From that statement, you have an idea what the whole album is all about.  It speaks of heartache and lost love due to several reasons like conflict of ideas on what love, relationships, and dreams are all about.  It is always a case of man versus women and the inability of both individuals to compromise lead to separation.

“Superheroes” is telling listeners that even superheroes can fix love problem by staying strong and dealing away with pain.  “Man On A Wire” follows the lead of the previous two songs which deal with heartache and moving on.    “It’s Not Right For You” has lyrics and theme that you frequently read in romantic novels.  This is quite strange for rock band dealing with context about following your dreams as told from a women’s perspective.  “The Energy Never Dies” has good melody for a rock song but it has also quite some embarrassing lyrics that you usually find in love notes stuck in your notebooks during your teenage days.  These words “ I cross my heart and I hope to die; May God strike me down if I tell you lies; I’d stay here forever looking in your eyes 24/7, baby 3-6-5.” Are very juvenile words to profess love to somebody.

The piano background in “Flares” will remind you of any Meat Loaf songs.  Even the song is structured similarly with one of his popular rock ballad during the nineties.  “Army of Angels” is a contradiction in this album when most of the songs speaks about lost love and here is one song that talks about love being a shield that covers all the pain and struggle on love.  “Never Seen Anything Quite Like You” merely explains why the heartache that was told in some of the songs here is very deep.  There is indeed a lot of regret losing the girl as implied in songs lik “Man on A Wire” and “No Good in Goodbye.”

“Paint The Town Green” is a celebration song and from what the lyrics suggested, finally the lovers are reunited.  “Without Those Songs” might be a tribute to some of the world’s greatest performers and songwriters but it is homage to love which the fire was kept on burning because of the songs that reminded lovers to stay together.  It may also mean that that somebody is useless without the other.  Finally, the script in this album ends up with a declaration that no matter what happens, love will be there and the love that is intact will wither many different weathers.

Yes, listening to this album is like reading a book about love lost and being rediscovered.  Fortunately, this band created melodies that listeners will really be hooked up to listen to the whole album.  I rate this record 4 stars out of 5 stars.
