Artist : THE WAR ON DRUGS
Genre : ALTERNATIVE ROCK
Date of Released : 2014
One of the possible reasons why this album received lesser attention is probably due to the name of this group. WAR ON DRUGS sounds like an album title from a heavy rap group and not as a name of a band or group. This group is an American indie rock band and this album was released March of 2014. Listeners who discovered this album was in for a very nice surprise. This is one album that you should buy or legally download and revel yourself in the pleasure of listening pop /rock songs which are not damaging to your ear drums.
Listening to this album might find you travelling in time as there are lots of influences that you detect in this record. “Under The Pressure” has 802’s rock vibe and at the end of the song, you can say that there is Pink Floyd influence due to long guitar plucking leading to the song’s conclusion. “Red Eyes” has a Bob Seger “Shakedown” elements and “Under The Milkyway” by The Church. “Suffering” feels like “Love Me” song by Michael Cretu. The whole vibe and instruments will make you believe that the band was dealing with suffering indeed.
“An Ocean in Between The Waves” has a guitar performance that is hypnotic and very Beach Boys. In “Disappearing,” you will hear some parts of “Radio Gaga” by the Queen. When you reach the song “Eyes To The Wind,” you will realize that the album is not only a hodgepodge of musical styles and influences but probably homage to particular album “Orange” by REM. The guitar performance is the given factor why. What makes “The Haunting Idle” very interesting is that the group was able to create a song that will make you feel haunted and oblivious to your surroundings.
In “Burning” it is back to the eighties again in terms of musical style. “Lost in The Dream” is like an Enio Morricone song polished with pop and rock treatment to make it more radio friendly. “In Reverse,” can be considered as filler song but, compared with other filler songs even from more popular band, this song is even better.
Yes, this is a great album and I rate this record 4 stars out of 5 stars.
1 star = Ignore it
2 stars= risk it
3 stars = borrow or buy it
4 stars = buy it and keep it
5 = buy, keep, and treasure it
