Album Review : INSPIRATO

Artist                                     :               YANNI

Genre                                   :               NEW AGE / INSTRUMENTAL / CLASSICAL CROSSOVER / OPERA VOCAL

Date of Released             :               2014

There is a tendency for new age or instrumental album to be boring especially among listeners who are pop oriented.  There is that lingering notion that once you heard one album from any artist in this genre, you felt that you heard them all.  INSPIRATO is the 17th album of Yanni and indeed it is amazing to know that he is able to produce this number of albums; it is a feat indeed.  Then, you ask question how come he is able to churn out this huge number of records?  The answer is provided in this album.

If pop performers in particular have duet albums, Yanni has vocal collaboration album.  In this record, he enlisted several famous classical vocalists like Renee Fleming, Placido Domingo, Katherine Jenkins, and many others.  The result is that you have a new age record where you can play over and over again.  Why?  The listeners are not treated with the usual classical songs like Nessun Durma for example.  Instead, Yanni scavenged his closet and retrieved some old songs of his and reworked it.  Thus, you have pop, classical, and new age fusion in this album.

This is a good move on his part.  For those who are not familiar with tenors and sopranos, this is a good album to be acquainted.  For those who are into classical music, you might find the fusion of genre scandalous, but what can you do, Yanni is not a classical artist but basically a pop instrumentalist.

Definitely this is a good record, I rate this album 3.5 stars out of 5 stars.

Ratings Description:
