Album Review : Under The Influence

Album Review                :       Under The Influence

Artist                                :        Workshy

Genre                              :       Jazz

Date of Released          :       1995

Can you trust this album to give the same listening pleasure like they did on their first album? The carrier song seems to be promising. “Under the Influence” is the kind of song that you hope will dictate the rest of the album. “Something Sweeter” is quite different; more sullen than any other Workshy song so far and quite stripped down and raw.

“On The Inside” is the kind of jazz song that soothes your mind and help you relax; the kind of stuff you hear as elevator music. “True To Life” seems a reject from their first album and was given a new lease of life in this record.  “One Way or Another” goes back to the same musical treatment the first song has.

There seems to be a confuse character in this record.  The band does not have an idea whether to maximize the style that made them a hit on their first record or move on to a new direction as some songs that have new musical sound suggests. Thus, you have a hodgepodge here of new and old sound. While it may be a charm but somehow, it denies the album a certain character.

I rate this record 2.5stars out of 5 stars.

Ratings Description:
