echo and the bunnymen

The carrier song in this album “Meteorite” had the singer asking “hope, where is the hope for me, can it be found?”  Indeed, for those who are familiar with Echo and The Bunnymen, they only have one hit “Lips Like Sugar.” And yet, one wonders how come they are still around.  Is hope the only thing that motivates them to stick around?.  Is there really hope for this band to make another hit song?  Will this album deliver that?

“Holy Moses” is a possibility; it has the beat and a familiar expression as song title. However, it’s too oriental in treatment like hearing a Hare Krishna song. “Constantinople” could be the one but it is like a throwback to the 80’s song. It has a good guitar riff though. “Is This A Breakdown” can be the hit song they needed if this one was released during the nineties.  “Lovers on the Run” has a good title for a hit song but, so very New Wave.  “Explosion” lacks polishing, they producers of this album should have inputted popular instruments used by current rock bands to give this song more currency and sounds familiar to rock fans today and the chance of having a new hit through this song becomes higher.  The same idea can be said with “Market Town.”

The album might lack potential hit song, it doesn’t mean that it is a throw away album. The songs mentioned in this review are worth listening too if you want to be familiar with the talents of this band and of you are a fan of 80’s band or this band specifically. I rate this record 2.5 stars out of 5 stars.

Ratings Description:

3 stars = buy it

4 stars = buy it and keep it

5 = buy, keep, and treasure it
