Album Review : My Everything
Artist : Ariana Grande
Genre : Pop / Rand B
In the intro song, she sang that she will give everything she has and this she promise to that you person. Let us see if this album is a good once considering that in less than one year she released two albums.
The song “Problem” has a chant that said” I got one less problem without you.” The song is correct, there is no need for another song which sounds like “Be Mine” from her first album. The only difference is that Iggy Azalea raps in this song; it could be intentional to make the song sounds different from the other one. She already has a problem early in this record.
Fortunately, she avoided another problem with “One Last Time.” At first, it may sound like a nineties song and a Mariah Carey sound a like; she avoided sounding it like “Now That I Know” and using her high octaves. Thus, you have a dance tune that is not irritating to your ears. “Break’ works well for her. It is like combining production aspects of a Justin Beiber dance song with disco and EDM elements; cute song.
“Best Mistake” will not rank as one of the best ballads ever due to Big Sean; the rap portion destroyed what seemed to be a convincing delivery of a song about loving a man despite being her best mistake. I was quite afraid that she will mimic Mariah Care in “Be My Baby” considering the song title and the “ahhhhh” intro in the song; she did just a little bit. You can say that there are lots of spin off in this album from her first record. This is evident in “Break Your Heart Back,” “Love Me Harder,” and “Hands On Me.” I was expecting so much with “My Everything” considering that it is the carrier song; disappointing song, so generic, so trite, and unimaginative record production.
The record has “Bang Bang” towards the later part of the album which is just quite right. Had this song been the first song, listeners would have expected too much with this album. My judgement is that, there is a possibility that she might fall prey with the sophomore album bug. Mariah nearly did.
I rate this record 2.5 stars out of 5 stars.
1 star = Ignore it
2 stars= risk it
3 stars = borrow or buy it
4 stars = buy it and keep it
5 = buy, keep, and treasure it
