Album Review : Confidencias
Artist : Alejandro Fernandez
Genre : Latin Pop
It was my mother who introduced me to Spanish and Latin songs and artists. She had a vast collection of records from Trini Lopez, Trios Los Panchos, and other famous Latin singers during the fifties, sixties, and seventies. The funny thing about this musical passion of mine, I only admired the melodies and the way the song was sang since I did not understand Spanish while I was younger. Thus, in this age of internet downloads, one of the things that I often do is to search and download contemporary Latin artists. That is the reason why I discovered this gem of a record.
Alejandro Fernandez is one of the popular singers in this genre. What makes him different from other pop artist like Enrique Iglesias is that Alejandro is more old school in terms of Latin pop songs. Meaning, he relies on melody and wonderful lyrics. I can say that most of the songs in this album have good lyrics because I was able to acquire some words on Spanish. It is quite fascinating to hear him sing about winning lost love in “Hoy Tengo Ganas De Ti,” telling the women he loves I Love You several times in “Te Quiero Te Quiero, or recalling moments why he forgot to live in “Mi Olivide de vivir.”
His duet with Christina Aguillera works very well in “Hoy Tengo Ganas de Ti” since Christina has Latin origins. In his song “Olvidarte,” he delivered it with and you can really feel how he wished to forget something in his life. In “A Pesar A Todo,” he sings about falling in love regardless what other people will say. The saxophone break in the middle of song made the song more romantic. He croons about forgetting all the things that hurt a person in “Procuro Olvidarte.”
After listening to the whole album, you can explain why it is titled “Confidencias.” It takes a lot of confidence to reveal about innermost thoughts about trying to forget some important aspects of your life. Listening to it and Google translate at the same time, you can understand what are the things that he wants to forget; a lost life, lost opportunities, and lost moments with love ones. You will definitely enjoy this record. I rate this one 4 stars out of 5 stars.
